All About Mrs. Bechard
Hello! I am so excited to be back on board the clipper ship for my 6th year here at Olive Chapel Elementary. My teaching adventure began in 1st grade on Track 3. I moved to 2nd grade four years ago where I found my home. My passion is in 2nd grade because at that age children are eager to learn, independent and wide-eyed to the world. |
Growing Up |
I was born in Syracuse, NY but only lived there briefly. My K-12 years were spent in a town called Bethlehem on the outskirts of Albany, NY where my father was the school superintendent (I wonder where I got my love of education from). Growing up I played soccer, lacrosse, ran track and played the flute in the band. My small amount of leisure time was spent playing in the woods by my house, reading R.L. Stine and the Baby Sitters Club and being a big sister to my two younger brothers. We also spent every summer splitting our time between my grandparent's house on Canandaigua Lake and our second home on Cape Cod. Canandaigua Lake is where I learned how to water ski!

Education
Currently |
My Educational career started in the Bethlehem Central School District where I graduated high school. I spent the summer after my senior year as a camp counselor. It was then that I realized my passion to work with children. I went on to obtain my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. While I'm sure it is not a school familiar to most, it has a highly accredited education program comparable to Columbia University's program. Currently I live in Fuquay-Varina with my husband who is also a teacher. He teaches 7th-grade social studies at Holly Grove Middle School. We live with our two cats who are named Bella and Levon. Their namesakes are drastically different. Our fat black and white cat is Bella and she was named after Bella from Twilight. Levon is an energetic gray tabby cat and he is named after Levon Helm from The Band.
We left all of our friends and family in 2013 because of our passion for teaching. After a substantial amount of research we decided North Carolina was the place for us! We do not regret our decision for a minute. The last few winters in the Northeast have helped to reinforce our decision. Our favorite place in the world is Cape Cod, which is where we got married! My parents retired to Eastham, MA. We visit the Cape several times a year and some of our favorite activities are fishing, kayaking, clamming, boogie boarding, swimming and most importantly BEACHING IT!! What I most enjoy is spending time reading, cooking (I am a self proclaimed master chef), hiking, kick boxing, watching reality TV and relaxing by the pool! |
